2,000 people were included in the survey and there were two major concerns over becoming a landlord because of tenants damaging the property and having to repair toilets – both came in at 63%. A close third reason for grave concern, was that 62% said loss of revenues would be incurred if the property experienced vacant periods.

The survey was carried out on behalf of a student property investment consultancy.

There are around 1.6 million UK buy-to-let investors which have risen by 120,000 in 2014. The survey also highlighted  39% of people polled  in London and 38% in the West Midlands believe that property market will continue to rise, whereas only 21% in the North East felt the same.

The pension reform is now upon us and this could mean a surge of new landlords entering the buy-to-let sector and the survey believes that out of the new investors, 1 in 8 would invest in student property.
