Operation Magnify Exposes Rogue Landlords Housing Illegals
Operation Magnify, a British national enforcement operation has found more than 200 suspected illegal immigrants being housed by rogue landlords. If suspicions are correct then the landlords will face fines and may have to face a prison term.
The Border Force has been working on the operation since the start of the year in an effort to stamp out illegal immigrants living in rented properties….. who of course, have no ‘Right to Rent’.
Operation Magnify ended in June when police officers raided 253 residential properties across Britain.
From the intelligence led raids more than 200 people have been taken into custody, many of those arrested were found to have overstayed their visa entitlement, and others are suspected of ‘arriving’ in the UK illegally.
The Immigration Minister, Brandon Lewis, said: “These operations show that we will not tolerate people living and working illegally in the UK.
“Illegal working cheats the taxpayer, has a negative impact on the wages of legal workers and allows rogue employers to undercut legitimate businesses.
“Those who come to the UK to live and work illegally often arrive with a very different expectation to the situation that they then face. The reality is very different and they will often find themselves at the mercy of exploitative employers or landlords.
“Those unscrupulous landlords flout the rules by knowingly renting property to illegal migrants as easy source of profit.
“We are committed to tackling abuse and building an immigration system which works in the best interest of the country.”
