Landlord Tarred As Gone ‘Rogue’ Intends To Sue Council
Brent Council may be sued by a landlord for defamation of character by being publicly denounced as a Rogue Landlord through no apparent fault of his own, when his three bedroomed property was discovered to be housing thirty five men.
The residents were living in appalling conditions in the property as every room was full crammed of mattresses and bedding, except for the bathrooms. Even a mattress was discovered in the back garden inside a canopy without any form of heating and the kitchen was also used as a sleeping area.
The landlord claims he had no idea whatsoever about the number of residents in his property as the tenancy agreement was for just three people.
Council officers raided the property a week ago after being contacted by neighbours of the property who complained about fly tipping, loud and aggressive behaviour which was all related to the overcrowding.
The landlord who is a doctor told the local newspaper that he is in a considerable state of shock from the discovery and will evict the men as quickly as possible.
He said: “I have no idea how many people are living at this address, it was originally rented out to three people. This is the first time I have come here in the month they have been living here. We were not aware they were staying here and we are going to evict them.”
“Brent council put out a statement to the press saying that it was a ‘rogue landlord’ and I resent these comments. They’re highly defamatory and I am speaking with my lawyers.
“I’m not running away from anything, why would I? This house is worth a lot of money. They could have found me in minutes on the land registry.”
