Landlord Left Devastated After Tenant Steals Items From Flat When Evicted

It is very rare that this type of story ever gets media coverage about tenants running off with items not belonging to them from landlords’ properties at the end of a tenancy.

However, the Oxford Mail newspaper has just run such a story about a landlord who has been left devastated after a tenant who was “noisy” and “not nice” upon her eviction, took the entire contents from the property’ that she was able to move.

“The tenant took with her the television, all of the cutlery, the microwave, the toaster, and even took my lawnmower” the landlord told the Oxford Mail.

“Everything had been stolen and it was completely unclean when we got there. The fridge was filled with muddy water.”

According to paper the tenant had failed to pay any rent since January 2020 and following a court hearing was evicted.

The newspaper was told by the landlord that he had been sent a letter from Oxford Council stating that his tenant was continually behaving in an anti-social manner and complaints of her making excessive noise into the early hours.

He was also told by the council that his tenant  was leaving “excessive waste items in the garden” that were “becoming a detriment to the local amenity”.

The landlord and his wife are now said to be suffering financially – the property is their only buy to let and in the absence of rent they are now “running out of money”.

Thames Valley Police are currently investigating the thefts.
