74 flats in buildings up to seven storeys high proposed on Windmill Road

An application to build 74 new flats on the site of an industrial building on Windmill Road has been submitted to Hounslow Council.

The proposal is to develop Churchill House, which is just to the south of St. Faith’s Church, into two blocks, one seven storey high with a roof terrace on top and another ranging up to six stories.

A phased development is proposed with Block A, the six storey unit containing 33 one flats in the first phase and Block B, containing the remaining 41 flats to be built in phase 2.

There will be 21 one bedroom units, 40 two bedroom and 13 three bedroom.

The original proposal consulted on in November 2018 by Merchant Land Ltd was for 90 flats. The revised proposal has split the design into two blocks allowing for a main entrance on Windmill Road to a central courtyard and car parking.

The site is located west of the B452, Windmill Road, and north of the M4 and A4, in which Windmill Road passes underneath the M4 and intersects the A4.

The site is a long rectangular strip of land with an area of 0.39ha.

The applicant argues that the increase in height from the existing 1-2 storey building on the site is justified because of the size of nearby buildings including the university accommodation which ranges up to 17 storeys. There is a 4-9 storey residential block called the Ladakh building close to the southwest boundary corner.

Much of the surrounding area is made up of two storey Victorian and Edwardian terraced houses.
