Landlord Rental Market Prepare Report For Aid

A trade body has just announced it is preparing a report to Boris Johnson, which says it will be submitting a report to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick and Chancellor Rishi Sunak, highlighting that the landlord rental market urgently needs government aid.

The report will be submitted after an online event which includes a Conservative and Labour MPs amongst other speakers in the trade body’s webinar being held this Tuesday 20th July.

The government’s figures reveals that across England from the start of lockdown measures last year, the percentage of private sector tenants falling into rental arrears has tripled.

The trade body states that the ongoing increases in rental arrears cannot continue to be maintained by tenants and landlords as the majority of owners are one man bands.

Both the Scottish and Welsh governments have introduced their own schemes to help renters pay back pandemic related arrears. The webinar will address the major problem that landlords are facing in England with the rise in Covid’s landlord rental market arrears, and the government action it must take.

Lord Bird of Notting Hill, Nigel Mills MP, a Conservative member of the Work and Pensions Committee and the founder of the Big Issue, together with Yvonne Fovargue, Labour Chair of the All-Party Group for Debt and Personal Finance will be speaking at the online event.

The trade body’s policy director will also be speaking at the event.

The event kicks off  at 10am next Tuesday and for those attending will be allowed to pose questions and enter into general discussion topics.

Following the event the trade body will then put together a report and submit it to the government ministers.
