Inside ‘London’s thinnest house’ on sale for £950k which was originally a Victorian hat shop
Some parts of the house are no wider than a bath
London’s thinnest house is back on the market but you will need a fat wad of cash if you fancy buying it.
The unique property in West London is sandwiched between a doctor’s surgery and a shuttered hairdressing salon so you won’t need to travel far when feeling poorly or in need of a post-lockdown haircut.
It is thought that as well as being dubbed London’s thinnest house it is also the slimmest in the UK and boasts an impressive five floors with a private garden.
The quirky Shepherd’s Bush property is just 5ft 6ins at its narrowest point and is currently on the market for a cool £950,000.
The house was originally a Victorian hat shop with storage for merchandise and living quarters on its upper floors and was built sometime in the late 19th or early 20th century.
Past owners of the property include fashion photographer Juergen Teller, who converted the property into a home, and “Pride and Prejudice” actor Simon Woods.
According to the Mirror Online the advert for the house reads: “Unique, beautiful, stylish and quite probably the thinnest house in England. So much more than a home.”
David Myers of Winkworth Shepherd’s Bush, who is handling the sale believes the house would be suited towards “creative types such as media people, designers, and photographers” and “is not designed to be a family home”.
He said: “I think people are drawn to them simply because of their unique charm, character, and originality.
“After all, how many of us can say we live in something so eccentric instead of the more conventional home we all seem to gravitate to?”
“Perhaps this over use is why it feels so completely inadequate when it comes to describing this genuinely individual property which, despite its surface oddness is actually very easy to live with.”
The house has an Aga powered, Nest controlled central heating system, period parquets flooring, an original deco bath tub, a roof terrace and double full height glass doors leading from the glazed dining area out onto the private patio garden.
